Although several reports suggest trade discussions have taken place, Mumbai Indians have neither confirmed nor denied any negotiations. Sources indicate that conversations with interested franchises remain at a preliminary stage, with the franchise still evaluating its options before the IPL 2027 trade window progresses.
The biggest obstacle is simple: Mumbai do not want to strengthen a direct rival unless they receive a package that significantly improves their own squad.
Despite mixed performances since returning from Gujarat Titans in 2024, Pandya remains one of the IPL's most valuable Indian all-rounders because of his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, captain a franchise, and provide balance that few Indian players can offer.

Following Ajinkya Rahane's retirement, KKR are searching for a new long-term captain. Pandya fits their requirements perfectly, offering proven leadership while also filling the middle-order power-hitting role previously occupied by Andre Russell.
Reports suggest KKR have shown genuine interest, but negotiations have stalled because Mumbai Indians are demanding a premium return.
Mumbai reportedly want both a marquee batter and an elite bowler in exchange, while KKR are reluctant to part with any of their biggest stars. Cameron Green has been mentioned as a possible trade component, although his availability remains uncertain because of Australia's international commitments.
Chennai Super Kings Waiting for New Coach
Chennai Super Kings have also been heavily linked with Pandya, but club officials continue to insist that no serious decision will be made until a new head coach is appointed.
CEO Kasi Viswanathan has publicly stated that the franchise is currently focused on finalising its coaching staff before discussing player recruitment.
Speculation has suggested CSK could offer Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis and a cash component instead of including young batting prospect Ayush Mhatre, whom the franchise reportedly considers untouchable.
If negotiations eventually begin, Pandya would provide CSK with something they currently lack—a world-class Indian pace-bowling all-rounder capable of finishing games and leading the side when required.

Lucknow Super Giants have also entered the rumour mill, with reports suggesting they could offer Pandya both the captaincy and a lucrative financial package. Rajasthan Royals have previously been linked through speculation involving Yashasvi Jaiswal, although no credible discussions have materialised.
Delhi Capitals represent another intriguing possibility. A potential swap involving Axar Patel has been discussed because it would strengthen Mumbai's spin department while giving Delhi one of the league's premier all-rounders. However, sources indicate such a move currently remains unlikely.
Why a Trade Is So Difficult
Pandya presents a unique challenge for Mumbai Indians.
While his recent IPL performances have fluctuated, his value extends beyond statistics. He remains one of India's few genuine seam-bowling all-rounders, possesses extensive captaincy experience, and can transform the balance of any squad.
For Mumbai, trading Pandya would almost certainly strengthen whichever rival acquires him. That means any potential deal would require exceptional value in return—something no franchise has yet been willing or able to provide.
