LSG Appoint G Jayakumar as Batting Coach in Major IPL 2027 Rebuild
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have accelerated their preparations for IPL 2027 with a series of significant moves, including the appointment of former Kerala cricketer G Jayakumar as batting coach and the launch of a specialized overseas training program for emerging Indian batters.
The franchise has been among the busiest teams during the IPL off-season, recently completing a high-profile trade that saw Rishabh Pant return to Delhi Capitals while Kuldeep Yadav joined Lucknow Super Giants. Now, LSG have shifted their focus toward strengthening their batting unit as part of a broader rebuilding strategy.

G Jayakumar Set to Join LSG Coaching Staff
Multiple reports have confirmed that G Jayakumar will join the Lucknow Super Giants coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027. He is expected to work closely with the franchise’s domestic players and become part of a coaching group led by director of cricket Tom Moody, head coach Justin Langer, and bowling coach Bharat Arun.
The appointment also signals a likely change in the support staff structure, with Lance Klusener expected to move out of the setup.
Although Jayakumar represented Kerala as a pace bowler during his playing career, he has built a strong reputation as a batting coach in Chennai. He is widely credited for helping shape the development of several young players, including India batter B Sai Sudharsan, who has emerged as one of the country's most promising batting talents across formats.
Perth Training Camp Planned for Young Indian Batters
As part of their long-term batting development program, LSG will send a group of young Indian batters to Perth, Australia, for an intensive training camp under Justin Langer.
The players expected to attend include:
- Ayush Badoni
- Abdul Samad
- Arshin Kulkarni
- Himmat Singh
- Mukul Choudhary
- Akshat Raghuwanshi
The camp will focus on improving their ability against high-quality pace bowling and adapting to the bounce and pace typically found on Australian surfaces.
Following the Perth camp, the players will return to India and travel to Chennai, where they will begin working closely with Jayakumar on batting techniques, power-hitting skills, and overall game development.
LSG Looking to Build More Firepower
Lucknow Super Giants are also actively searching for a specialist power-hitter ahead of IPL 2027. While the franchise is exploring options in the market, management is equally focused on developing big-hitting talent from within its existing squad.
The appointment of Jayakumar aligns with this objective, as LSG seek to build greater batting depth after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign that exposed weaknesses in their middle order.
Pant-Kuldeep Trade Reshapes LSG's Future Plans
The recent trade involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav has significantly altered the franchise's plans.
Sources indicate that discussions between LSG owner representative Shashwat Goenka and Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal were completed weeks before the deal became official, with both players kept informed throughout the process.
For LSG, the arrival of Kuldeep strengthens an already competitive bowling attack, while Pant's departure provides additional financial flexibility heading into the next auction cycle.
Bigger Auction Purse Ahead of IPL 2027
With the Pant-Kuldeep trade completed, LSG are expected to enter the next auction with a healthy budget.
The franchise is believed to have approximately INR 23 crore available, including:
- Savings generated from the trade
- The annual INR 5 crore salary-cap increase
- Remaining funds carried over from the previous season
Additional player releases could further increase their spending power.
LSG Begin New Era Ahead of IPL 2027
After finishing at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, Lucknow Super Giants appear determined to overhaul key areas of their setup. The combination of a revamped coaching structure, overseas development camps, a strengthened bowling attack, and increased auction flexibility highlights the franchise's ambition to bounce back strongly.
With G Jayakumar joining the coaching staff and Justin Langer overseeing the development of young batters, LSG have already begun laying the foundation for a fresh chapter ahead of IPL 2027.
