SRH vs RR Eliminator IPL 2026: Can Rajasthan Royals Finally Break Their Sunrisers Curse?

SRH vs RR Eliminator IPL 2026: Rajasthan Royals Aim to Break Sunrisers’ Dominance in Mullanpur

The IPL 2026 Eliminator brings together two teams travelling very different roads into the playoffs, but only one will survive the knockout battle in New Chandigarh. Sunrisers Hyderabad enter the contest with momentum, consistency, and a dominant recent record against Rajasthan Royals, while RR arrive searching for redemption after an inconsistent league campaign.

At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Rajasthan Royals face perhaps their toughest challenge yet: finding a way to stop the IPL’s most explosive batting lineup while also ending a six-match losing streak against SRH dating back to 2022.

For RR, this is more than just an Eliminator. It is a chance to rewrite an entire narrative.

Rajasthan Royals Looking to Course Correct

Just a few weeks ago, Rajasthan Royals looked in danger of missing the playoffs entirely. Captain Riyan Parag openly questioned the team’s consistency after a poor run of results, admitting that RR did not deserve a top-four finish if they continued performing at that level.

However, timely victories against struggling sides revived their campaign and pushed them into the playoffs. Despite qualifying, RR still appear to be the least convincing side among the top four teams.

History is also against them. Since the IPL introduced the Eliminator format, only one team has gone on to win the title after playing the Eliminator — Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.

Now, RR must attempt to repeat that journey against the very same franchise.

SRH’s Batting Firepower Remains Their Biggest Weapon

Sunrisers Hyderabad have once again built their campaign around fearless batting and relentless attacking cricket.

The opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head has been among the most destructive combinations in IPL 2026. Together, they have scored at a strike rate above 206 during the Powerplay, regularly putting opposition bowlers under pressure immediately.

Yet SRH’s biggest advantage may actually lie beyond the opening overs.

Their No.3 and No.4 combination of Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen has been the most productive middle-order pairing in the tournament. Kishan has scored 569 runs at a strike rate of 178.36, while Klaasen has accumulated 499 runs at an average above 55.

Compared to RR’s middle-order duo of Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag, SRH comfortably lead in runs, average, and strike rate.

This middle-order dominance has made SRH one of the most complete batting units in IPL 2026.

New Chandigarh Conditions Could Decide the Match

Mullanpur has emerged as one of the highest-scoring venues this season, with six of the eight completed innings crossing the 200-run mark.

However, there is an interesting pattern at the venue.

While Powerplay scoring remains extremely high, the run rate tends to dip significantly once field restrictions are lifted. Spinners have also enjoyed far greater success than pacers, conceding runs at an economy of 9.29 compared to 11.06 for seamers.

That could bring RR’s spin plans into focus.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has struggled badly against spin this season, striking below 120. On the other hand, Dhruv Jurel has looked significantly more comfortable against slower bowling than pace.

RR spent considerable time during training preparing specifically for SRH’s spin attack, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi focusing heavily on lofted hitting against tweakers.

Interestingly, during his sensational 37-ball century against SRH earlier this season, Sooryavanshi faced only six deliveries of spin but smashed 21 runs from them.

Archer Holds the Key for Rajasthan Royals

If RR are to stop SRH, much of the responsibility will fall on Jofra Archer.

The England speedster is enjoying one of his best IPL seasons and remains RR’s most dangerous weapon with the new ball. Archer’s battle against Travis Head could shape the entire match.

Head has scored aggressively against Archer in T20 cricket, striking above 160, but Archer has also dismissed him three times in just 33 balls.

RR’s best chance lies in breaking SRH’s top order early.

In several of SRH’s defeats this season, collapses inside the Powerplay proved decisive. Against RCB, they slipped to 29/3. Against Gujarat Titans, they collapsed to 32/4. Those performances exposed SRH’s vulnerability when early wickets fall.

RR will hope Archer can recreate similar damage in Mullanpur.

SRH Bowling Attack Quietly Becoming Elite

While SRH’s batting gets most of the attention, their bowling attack has quietly become one of the strongest in the tournament.

Led by Pat Cummins, Eshan Malinga, and Sakib Hussain, SRH currently possess the best middle-over economy rate in IPL 2026.

Their ability to control scoring after the Powerplay could become crucial on a surface where run-making naturally slows down once the field spreads out.

SRH may also consider bringing Harshal Patel back into the XI given his excellent record against Rajasthan Royals. Harshal has claimed 23 wickets against RR in T20 cricket and enjoys bowling in Mullanpur conditions.

Injury Concerns Around RR Camp

Rajasthan Royals head into the Eliminator with a few fitness concerns.

Both Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja are carrying minor niggles, although team management remains hopeful about their availability. Jadeja was seen bowling lightly during practice sessions, while Parag largely stayed away from intense training drills.

If Jadeja misses out, RR could turn to Ravi Bishnoi as an additional spin option.

Matchups That Could Define the Eliminator

Several individual battles could shape this knockout clash:

  • Jofra Archer vs Travis Head
  • Pat Cummins vs Riyan Parag
  • Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs SRH spinners
  • Heinrich Klaasen vs RR middle-over bowlers

The pressure of knockout cricket often magnifies these contests, especially in conditions expected to heavily favor aggressive batting.

Match Prediction: Who Will Win SRH vs RR Eliminator?

Rajasthan Royals certainly possess enough firepower to challenge SRH, especially if Archer strikes early and their young batting core delivers under pressure.

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad appear to be the more balanced and battle-tested side heading into the playoffs. Their batting depth, middle-order consistency, and superior middle-over bowling attack give them a clear edge.

With SRH already completing a league double over RR this season and carrying a six-match winning streak in the rivalry, momentum strongly favors Pat Cummins and his team.

Prediction: Sunrisers Hyderabad to defeat Rajasthan Royals and advance to IPL 2026 Qualifier 2.
