Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Continues His Fearless Run

Young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again lit up the Powerplay with an explosive start. The teenage batter attacked from the outset, smashing a six off Lungi Ngidi to get going. He followed it up with a sensational pull shot against Mitchell Starc and then tore into DC debutant Tripurana Vijay.

Rajasthan raced to 75/1 in the Powerplay, with Sooryavanshi contributing 42 runs off just 16 deliveries. His fearless approach has become one of the standout stories of IPL 2026, regularly giving RR flying starts.

Riyan Parag Finally Finds His Best Form

After Sooryavanshi departed, Riyan Parag took charge and produced arguably his best innings of the season. The RR skipper shifted gears dramatically during the middle overs, launching Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar for massive sixes.

Parag reached his fastest-ever IPL half-century in just 23 balls and looked set to push Rajasthan beyond 220. Alongside Dhruv Jurel, who anchored the innings beautifully with 53 off 40 deliveries, RR appeared in complete control at 160/2 after 14 overs.

Mitchell Starc Turns the Match Around

Just when Rajasthan Royals seemed unstoppable, Mitchell Starc completely changed the game.

The Australian speedster returned for a devastating spell at the death, claiming three wickets in a single over. He removed Parag with a slower ball, dismissed Donovan Ferreira immediately after, and trapped debutant Ravi Singh lbw to derail Rajasthan’s momentum.

RR collapsed dramatically from 160/2 to 193/8, losing six wickets for just 33 runs in the final overs. Starc finished with outstanding figures of 4/40, while Madhav Tiwari and Lungi Ngidi also played crucial supporting roles.

KL Rahul and Porel Provide Flying Start

Chasing 194, Delhi Capitals got off to their best Powerplay of the season. KL Rahul survived an early dropped catch before Abishek Porel launched a stunning counterattack.

Porel hammered boundaries all around the ground, including a superb six off Jofra Archer, helping DC race to 72/0 in six overs. Rahul, meanwhile, crossed the 500-run mark for the eighth time in IPL history, underlining another consistent season.

However, RR slowly clawed their way back into the contest during the middle overs. Archer dismissed Sahil Parakh, while Rahul eventually fell after reaching his fifty.

Axar Patel and Ashutosh Sharma Finish the Job

With 52 runs needed from the final five overs, the match swung repeatedly between both sides.

Jofra Archer removed Tristan Stubbs at a crucial moment, but RR’s gamble to use Donovan Ferreira’s off-spin backfired badly as DC collected 16 runs from the over.

Even after David Miller’s dismissal, Ashutosh Sharma arrived and played a sensational cameo of 18 runs off just five balls. Alongside Axar Patel’s calm unbeaten 34, Delhi Capitals sealed the chase with four balls remaining.

Delhi Capitals’ Strange Home Struggles Continue

Despite the win, DC’s relationship with their home ground remains one of the biggest talking points of IPL 2026. Head coach Hemang Badani openly admitted after the match that Delhi have effectively started treating Arun Jaitley Stadium like an away venue due to the unpredictable surfaces.

Delhi ended their home campaign with only two wins in seven matches — the worst home record among all IPL teams this season. The constantly changing pitch conditions have particularly hurt DC’s spin-heavy strategy centered around Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Badani explained that the team often struggles to predict whether a surface will behave like a 180-run wicket or a 260-run batting paradise, making team selection and tactical planning extremely difficult.

IPL 2026 Playoff Race Heats Up

The result also added more drama to the IPL 2026 playoff race. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru already qualifying for the playoffs, several teams including Delhi Capitals remain locked in a fierce battle for the remaining spots.

DC’s victory keeps their hopes alive heading into their final league game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, have now suffered three consecutive defeats and face mounting pressure in their remaining fixtures.

As the tournament enters calculator season, every run, wicket, and net run rate point could prove decisive in determining the final playoff lineup.
